Abaca, also known as Manila hemp, is derived from the leaf stalks of the abaca plant, a close relative of the banana. This natural fiber is renowned for its strength, flexibility, and resilience, making it an ideal choice for creating stunning and long-lasting rugs. Handmade in India.
Each of our rugs is handmade in India from natural materials, using techniques passed down through generations. Because they are crafted by hand, every rug has slight inconsistencies or unique details that make it one of a kind. Sizes may vary by 1–3 inches in either direction, and colors may shift by 5–15% from what you see online. Motifs, borders, and patterns also scale with size, so the final piece may differ slightly from photos. These natural variations are part of authentic craftsmanship. All of our rugs are produced responsibly with no child labor, supporting the artisans who create them. To extend the life of your rug, we recommend using a felt rug pad.
Crafted by hand from resilient abaca fibers, each rug is finished for immediate use upon arrival. For care at home, vacuum with a non-beater brush attachment and promptly blot spills with a dry cloth. Abaca is a strong natural fiber, but like jute, it should be protected from prolonged exposure to moisture, which can lead to warping or mildew. Rotate periodically to promote even wear.
